Project Overview

This project involved the upgrade of the sports lighting at Old Aerodrome Oval in Mildura to meet the lighting requirements for Cricket Lighting Class V as per AS2560.2.1-2021. The scope included designing a compliant lighting design, installing underground power cabling and controls, installing the main switchboard, and installing 4 new lighting towers with high-performance LED sports lights. 

Scope Details

  1. Design & Planning: 

  • Designed a compliant lighting solution in accordance with AS2560.2.1-2021 to meet the lighting requirements for Cricket Lighting Class V competition. 

  • Developed detailed lighting plans, including the placement of poles, distribution boards, and lights to ensure uniform light distribution and adequate illuminance across the oval. 

  1. Power & Cabling Infrastructure: 

  • Installed underground power cabling and control systems to support the new lighting infrastructure. 

  • Installed a new main switchboard to support the lighting system, ensuring safety and compliance with all relevant electrical standards. 

  • Installed 4 x pole distribution boards for each of the new lighting towers. 

  1. Lighting Tower & LED Sports Light Installation: 

  • Installed 4 x 32-meter lighting towers, strategically positioned to provide optimal lighting coverage across the oval. 

  • Mounted 44 x 1200W LED sports lights across the 4 poles, ensuring energy-efficient, high-quality lighting to meet Cricket Lighting Class V competition standards. 

  • Installed bird spikes across the tops of the poles and lights to prevent roosting, ensuring the integrity of the lighting system and reducing maintenance needs. 

  1. System Integration & Controls: 

  • Integrated a control system to manage the operation of the lighting towers, ensuring user-friendly management and efficient energy use. 

  • Ensured that the system was designed for ease of operation by local staff, with automated or manual control features for flexibility. 

  1. Testing & Compliance: 

  • Conducted testing to verify that the installed lighting system met the required standards for Cricket Lighting Class V competition as per AS2560.2.1-2021. 

  • Ensured uniform lighting distribution, proper light levels, and compliance with relevant lighting standards. 

  1. Post-Installation Support & Training: 

  • Delivered training for the relevant stakeholders, including Mildura West Cricket Club and Werrimull Football Club, on how to operate and maintain the new lighting system. 

  • Provided a comprehensive maintenance schedule and offered ongoing support for system performance. 

Deliverables

  • Fully operational sports lighting system with 4 x 32-meter towers and 44 x 1200W LED lights installed across the oval.
  • Installed new main switchboard, 4 x pole distribution boards, and underground cabling for the lighting system.
  • Bird spikes installed across the tops of poles and lights to prevent roosting and reduce maintenance.
  • Documentation for the entire system, including user manuals, maintenance guides, and warranty details.
  • Test results confirming compliance with the required standards for Cricket Lighting Class V competition.
